10 benefits of an at-home photoshoot!

I know I bang on about how FAB at-home shoot are, but honestly they are the fucking best. Drink the kool aid with me and check out all the reasons you should rock you next shoot at home:

1. It’s convenient, baby

You literally just have to open the door and let me in. That’s the max hurdle to jump before your photoshoot! No travel, no preparation, no massive interruption to your day. How easy is that?

2. Accessibility to the max

Let’s remove the barriers to profesh photography. Perhaps there are physical difficulties moving about in public that make you stressy, travel is too hard, you have neurodiversity challenges for members of the fam, or there’s anxiety about other people witnessing this moment. Your home is your safe and happy space - sounds like the perfect spot to capture some joy to me!

3. Safety and Comfort

If we're hoping for relaxed, happy kids - and not stressed parents - why not pick the place where you are all the comfiest. The kids can run around without risk of hurting themselves, you can enjoy the time we're taking knowing that you’re all safe, calm, and in your most familiar place. The likelihood of a happy child being surrounded by their fav things smashing a photoshoot out of the park is 100%.

4. The zero shits given about the state of your house

Friends. I literally don’t give a shit if your house is tidy and aesthetic and perfect. In fact, I want to be stepping over half finished legos, seeing the brekkie dishes in the sink and the half–eaten snack forgotten on the couch. There’s no need to prepare and rush about before I arrive - let’s focus more on having a fab time and capturing some memories!

5. Profesh work from your kitchen

Accessing professional photography - while you can also make a cuppa, go pee when you need to or make a snack? Don’t know about you - but that seems like a win to me (says Jess - owner of a small bladder).

6. No kid wrangling.

Remember the last time you took your kids to a spot and you spent most of the time running after them, yelling and preventing accidents, roped into some kind of imaginative role play you don’t know the rules off and trying to enjoy the moment…but really you ended up mostly stressed, kinda sweaty and relieved to get them back in the car…? Need I say more.

7. All your fav items and toys and activities at your fingertips

If you’re at all worried about keeping the kids' attention for the hour-long photoshoot, providing enough stimulation to keep the energy high and the emotions happy - we can happily turn to all the fav items and activities you already have in the home space! Kid’s can’t wait to show off their super cool toys and favourite games to the newcomer - which immediately provides so many inbuilt prompts for the shoot, and sustained attention with the kids doing activities they love.

8. Anxiety be gone!

Even if you’ve booked the shoot, and are so excited to have some nice photos of your family - there is still a heck of a lot of anxiety that can come with the thought of actually doing it! Having your shoot at home eliminates a huge amount of external anxiety triggers, and hopefully allows you to enjoy the moment, relax and be present.

9. Authenticity over Performance

It's hard in the current times to remember that life doesn’t have to be a performance. It doesn’t need to look perfect, or on trend or like your friend’s. Embracing your authentic life and love will serve you so much better. So let’s take photos in your kitchen in your hand knitted wooly socks, not on a cliff in your beige flowy pristine dress.

10. Cue the nostalgia

We all spend so much time in our little homes. We make them cozy, live our day-to-day’s together amongst our favourite belongings, laugh and cry and eat and LIVE. Having a photoshoot in your curated space will be bloody lovely in the moment - but also an absolute joy in 10 years. Remember that funny toy he played with all the time? Or how much you loved that old couch. Gosh it’s funny seeing the outfits you wore and the haircuts you had! Oh look - remember the cot she slept in when she was that little…? Our brains are busy - we forget things. Photos never do.
